Born in Metz, where he was an adviser to the parlement (1780), Pierre-Louis, count Roederer was elected a deputy for the third estate to the Estates General in 1789. A member of the jacobin Club at the beginning of the revolution of 1789, and district attorney for the department of seine (1791), he gave his support to King louis XVI after June 20, 1792, and counseled him to seek refuge after the events of August 10 of that year. Retiring from political life during the Convention, he taught political economy in the directory period and founded the Journal d'économie publique, de morale et de législation (1796). After he supported the coup d'état of18 Brumaire, Year VIII (November 9, 1799), he served successively as a counselor of state, senator (1802), minister of finances for the kingdom of Naples (1806), minister secretary of state for the grand duchy of Berg, Germany (1810), and commissioner to Strasbourg (1814). Count of Roederer wrote works on political economy and on history and was elected to the Académie Française in 1803.
